The processing requirements and production conditions are different, and the indicators for evaluating the machinability of materials are also different.
1. Cuttin g force or cutting temperature index
When machining different materials under the same cutting conditions, any workpiece material with large cutting force and high cutting temperature has poor machinability; on the contrary, its machinability is good. When rough machining or machine tool rigidity and power are insufficient, Cutting force is often used to evaluate the machinability of materials.
2. Tool life indicator
Under the same cutting conditions, the workpiece material with high tool life has good machinability. Or under a certain tool life, the workpiece material with a high maximum allowable cutting speed has good machi nability.
3. Processed surface quality index
Whether the commonly used materials can easily guarantee the required surface quality (commonly used surface roughness, or mea sured by work hardening and residual stress, etc.) is used as an index for evaluating the machinability of materials. The material with good surface quality after processing has good processability; otherwise, the processability is poor. In finishing, it is often used as a processing index.
4. Cutting control performance index
For materials that are easily controlled or broken, their machinability is good, otherwise, th ey are poor. In automatic machine tools or automatic production lines, the ease of cutting control is often used to evaluate the machinability of materials.
